Five Republicans are still in the race to go up against President Obama. Front-runner and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney now has the endorsement of a former rival, Jon Huntsman, who dropped out Monday. The other four candidates — former Sen. Rick Santorum, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Rep. Ron Paul and Texas Gov. Rick Perry — joined Romney in Myrtle Beach Monday night in the first of two debates before the South Carolina primary on Saturday.

WBUR's political analysts, Democrat Dan Payne and Republican Todd Domke, joined Morning Edition Tuesday for some analysis of the debate and the days to come.

This program aired on January 17, 2012.
