Look: Victoria Shen's 'Modernist Manicures'
Tonight's the last night to experience Victoria Shen’s “Modernist Manicures” pop-up spa at the Howard Art Project in Boston’s Fields Corner neighborhood.
As we wrote last week, the Somerville artist has been giving free manicures and painting renditions of Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and the like on people’s nails. “Each manicure is an opportunity to meditate over the Modernist legacy,” the announcement explains, “while sprawling canvases of the early 20th century are recreated in miniature on your hands.
At a closing reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 29, she and the gallery invite you to “Come show off your modernist nail art in the company of others! Haven't yet had a chance to acquire your own tiny modern artworks? The artist will be offering one-finger mini-modernist manicures during the course of the night.”
Pictured here are a selection of Shen’s finished nail paintings, as photographed by Shen and manicuree Sarah Knight. Did Shen paint your nails? E-mail us your photos and we’ll post them.
