Parents of newborns at two hospitals in Boston will be able to take part in a pilot program to study the ethical and medical consequences of sequencing a baby's DNA.

In a study called Baby Seq, a research team from Brigham and Women's and Boston Children's Hospital will study DNA sequencing in newborns. Its $6 million in funding comes from the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Robert Green, one of the study's lead researchers, joined WBUR's Morning Edition to discuss the study.

This program aired on September 5, 2013.
