Mass. Marine Returns Home For Final Time

Hundreds of people, many waving U.S. flags, have welcomed a fallen Abington Marine home for the final time.

The body of Sgt. Daniel Vasselian returned to Massachusetts on Tuesday.

After a Marine contingent loaded his casket into a hearse at Logan International Airport and state troopers stood by and saluted, police escorted him to Abington.

The hearse wound through town, passing his home and the town's armed forces memorial, as residents lined the streets and yellow ribbons adorned utility poles.

Visiting hours are set for Wednesday at Quealy and Son Funeral Home.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday at St. Bridget Church followed by burial at Mount Vernon Cemetery.

The 27-year-old Vasselian was killed in combat in Afghanistan last week.

Vasselian celebrated his fourth wedding anniversary earlier this month.
