Why Airbnb Is Backing Mass. Lawmakers' Push To Tax Its Rentals

Massachusetts lawmakers will soon decide whether or not to implement a new tax on Airbnb rentals in the final version of the state budget.

While some are against the idea of any new taxes, others, like Senate President Stan Rosenberg, say the Airbnb tax could raise some badly-needed revenue.

The San Francisco-based company is taking an unusual step. They wrote a letter to Sen. Rosenberg earlier this month backing the tax. Airbnb Director of Global Policy Chris Lehane joined Morning Edition to explain why.
