Environmentalists Push Back After White House Ends Policy Promoting Ocean Health

Environmentalists are pushing back against a White House decision to end the National Ocean Policy that promotes the health of the oceans.

The policy, established in 2010, required local and federal agencies to develop sustainable practices for using ocean resources.

Priscilla Brooks of the Conservation Law Foundation says ending it
will impact the ocean's ecosystem.

“This new policy that revokes the old policy clearly strips any stewardship ethic out of federal ocean policy," she said.

A coalition of oil and gas companies, and some from the fishing industry, applaud the move, saying it ensures economic and recreational benefits from the ocean.
