Forecast: Brief Break In The Heat

The heat wave of this week has now been broken, and we're looking at temperatures much cooler for the next couple of days before the heat and humidity return for the second part of this weekend.

A cold front slipped offshore late yesterday and now winds have turned from the west toward the east. This means that our air is coming in off the ocean and will be much cooler than the past couple of days. Temperatures this afternoon will stay in the lower 70s and will be accompanied by a lot of cloud cover.

Saturday brings clouds and some sunshine along with pleasant temperatures slightly below seasonal averages, but not chilly. There will be some humidity in the air and it will actually be a nice day to head over to your favorite orchard and do a little bit of U-Pick. This year's peaches have been particularly good so why not support local agriculture?

Next week our winds turn more southerly and this brings back the heat and humidity with at least a couple of days approaching or exceeding that 90 degree mark. Whether we see a official heat wave still remains a bit of a question. I can assure you we're not going to see any cool crisp clean Canadian air for any extended period of time for the foreseeable future.

This is the final day of meteorological summer and over the weekend we'll get the final statistics on what has been one of the hottest summers on record, and definitely the most humid. September is likely to be another warm month but just how warm is the big question.
