Forecast: Fine Fall Forecast This Weekend

There are two days left in astronomical summer and as fall begins this weekend temperatures will feel very seasonable. A cold front back to the west will create a southerly flow of milder and more humid air today. This will help to boost temperatures into the 70s with increasing humidity.

Some showers will roll across northern New England today, but here in southern New England it should be partly sunny. A second line of showers and storms moves east from New York and Pennsylvania this afternoon and evening. Some of these storms could reach severe levels in these areas, but I expect them to fall apart as they move east.

The weekend is looking quite nice with a blend of sunshine and clouds. The clouds will be ever-present and could dominate the sky from time. Temperatures will reach the lower 70s Saturday, but stay in the upper 60s on Sunday. There isn’t going to be any rain. The one caveat to the forecast is just how thick those clouds will be on Saturday and Sunday.

It remains comfortably cool Monday with an increase in humidity and warmth in the middle of next week.

The autumnal equinox arrives this weekend and this means that within a few days, the nights will be longer than the days. This continues until the middle of next March. The loss of light is accompanied by an enormous decrease in the strength of the light we do have. The sun is more than 20 degrees lower in the sky at noon today than it was back in July. That makes a huge difference in its ability to heat the ground. This is the main reason temperatures are falling this time of year.
