Massachusetts U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark has become one of the most powerful Democrats in the House.

At the party caucus Wednesday, Clark was elected vice chair. It's the sixth most powerful position in the caucus.

In a statement, Clark, who represents the Massachusetts 5th district, said she was "incredibly grateful for the support" of her colleagues.

She said she is "eager to get to work on the promises we made like getting corruption out of politics, protecting Social Security and Medicare, improving access to affordable, quality healthcare, and ensuring equal pay for equal work."
