Woman Dies In Hit And Run In Somerville

Massachusetts State Police are investigating a suspected hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead.

Police say a woman who appeared to be in her early 50s was struck on Mystic Avenue in Somerville at about 8 p.m. Saturday. The preliminary investigation indicates she was in a crosswalk.

She was taken by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say the vehicle continued driving south after the crash, but the driver later turned himself in and was interviewed by investigators.

No names were released, and although police say charges are expected they were still being finalized Sunday.
