A sinkhole at 319 Longwood Ave. in Boston has shut down two roads in the area, and police are advising drivers to seek alternate routes.

The sinkhole is located right in front of Children's Hospital. Binney and Blackfan streets are closed as workers evaluate the damage. A portion of Longwood Avenue is currently open only in one lane, heading west.

It's estimated to be about 4 feet wide, with an opening that's approximately 1.5 feet in diameter.

It's yet unclear what caused the rupture in the roadway. The Boston Water and Sewer Commission is at the scene investigating.
