Spilka's office ditches X, citing Musk's endorsement of 'monstrous and dangerous antisemitic lie'

State Senate President Karen Spilka announced Tuesday that her office will depart the social media site X, formerly Twitter, due to Elon Musk's support of antisemitism on the platform.

In a statement, Spilka said Musk had endorsed "a monstrous and dangerous antisemitic lie," and she could "no longer justify using the X platform for any reason."

"Actions speak louder than words, but words still matter," Spilka added in her statement. "Elon Musk has long promoted and enabled hateful speech and it is clear that he is not committed to hosting a platform that builds productive, respectful dialogue."

In recent days, major advertisers like IBM, Disney, Apple and others pulled ads and cut ties with X after a Media Matters report revealed the platform was displaying pro-Nazi content next to ads.

On Monday, Musk announced X is suing Media Matters, saying its report was manufactured to "drive advertisers away from the platform and destroy X Corp."

(WBUR left Twitter, now known as X, last April, along with NPR after the site wrongly labeled NPR "state-affiliated media.")

Spilka said her office and the state Senate's accounts will remain on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and LinkedIn.
