Trump under fire and unshackled. Misery after Hurricane Matthew. U.S. airstrikes in Yemen. Our weekly news roundtable goes behind the headlines.

It has been an astonishing week of extreme presidential campaign politics and revelations. Donald Trump, on video – obscene and apparently bragging of sexual assault of women. Hillary Clinton, with a near-daily drumbeat of Wikileaks now. Of public/private politics talk. Charging Moscow is invading our democracy. Trump invoking the end of civilization. Wow. This hour On Point, our weekly new roundtable. Hurricane destruction, U.S. missiles in Yemen, and wild politics. — Tom Ashbrook

From Tom’s Reading List

Washington Post: Surrogates explaining away Trump’s sexual behavior only seem to make things worse — "A wave of aides and surrogates have fanned out in recent days to defend Donald Trump after the release of a video in which he brags about forcing himself on women and subsequent allegations that he groped or kissed multiple women without their consent. But in trying to justify or wave away the reports, many of Trump’s defenders only seem to be making it worse."

Business Insider: Lou Dobbs is what's wrong with Trump's Republican Party -- "Lou Dobbs is, theoretically, a journalist. He hosts a show on Fox Business Network. And on Thursday morning, he shared to Twitter the apparent home phone number of Jessica Leeds, the woman who has accused Donald Trump of groping her on an airplane over 30 years ago."

The Wall Street Journal: Houthi Rebels in Yemen Condemn U.S. Attack on Radar Sites -- "Houthi rebels condemned U.S. strikes on three coastal radar sites in Yemen early Thursday and defended their right to sovereignty, but they denied claims that the group had targeted U.S. vessels in the Red Sea. The radar sites, all located in territory in southern Yemen controlled by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, were used during two separate attempted attacks against U.S. Navy ships, as well as in a third against a United Arab Emirates-flagged swiftboat, in the past few days, the Pentagon said."

This program aired on October 14, 2016.
