'Porgy And Bess' Nominated For Ten Tony Awards
ResumeLast year, the American Repertory Theater staged "The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess." The production was a re-imagined version of the 1935 opera and generated controversy and criticism from the likes of Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim. (Although, WBUR's critic-at-large felt it was an improvement on the original.)
Now, the production, which started at ART before heading off to Broadway, has been nominated for ten Tony Awards, including best revival of a musical and best direction.
Director Diane Paulus joined Radio Boston to discuss the nominations and the production.
