Deborah Meier is the founding principal of the Mission Hill K-8 School, now in Jamaica Plain. Emily Gasoi is a founding teacher. In their new book, the two say our 150-year project of public education is in peril, and that the last two decades of education reform have led us to lose sight of the original aim of public education: a better democracy.
