When we teach kids history, there's a tension between wanting them to understand the world and wanting to shield them from the violence and the complexity that has shaped it.

Jabari Asim took on the challenge of telling complete stories that are still accessible for kids with his new picture book, "A Children's Guide To African American History: The Experiences, People, and Events That Shaped Our Country."
