A  Brigham & Women’s Hospital doctor and filmmaker has taken up some profound themes in his first feature film — about aging, dying, human connection and sex.

In “Abe and Phil's Last Poker Game," an aging doctor (Martin Landau) moves into a nursing home with his deteriorating wife. He befriends gambler and womanizer Phil (Paul Sorvino), who he bonds with over poker, women and questions over the paternity of one of the nurse's in the home.

The film was Martin Landau's final role. He died last July at 89.

Guest

Howard Weiner, a filmmaker, co-director of the Center for Neurologic Diseases at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital and a professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. He is also the Director and Founder of the Partners Multiple Sclerosis Center.

"Abe and Phil's Last Poker Game" can be streamed online and there is more information in a CommonHealth post, which is available here.
