The upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend kicks off the unofficial start of summer, but here in New England many area beaches won't be summer-ready for several more weeks.

Officials say the consecutive winter nor'easters, with historic winds and damaging surges, destroyed homes and dunes and the state is still waiting on federal aid.
