Weymouth Community Reacts To Shooting Of Police Officer And Bystander
ResumeResidents in Weymouth are mourning the deaths of a police officer and an elderly neighbor.
Weymouth Officer Michael Chesna was wrapping up his shift when he arrived at the scene of single-car crash, police said. The alleged driver, 20 year-old Emanuel Lopes, was throwing rocks at a house.
Authorities say Lopes struck Chesna in the head with a rock before stealing the officer's weapon and fatally shooting him. Law enforcement officials say a stray bullet fired by Lopes also struck and killed 77-year-old Vera Adams.
