For the last few months, Radio Boston has been talking about banned books as part of our series on the impact of comics on the wider world. In this installment, we discuss Maia Kobabe's "Gender Queer" — the most banned book in the country, according to the PEN America Index of School Book Bans. The memoir was banned in 15 states this academic year.

As students head back to libraries in September, we hear from Kobabe, who uses ey/em/eir pronouns, about "Gender Queer" and its ongoing relevance. Also joining us is Joel Christian Gill, our guide to the world of comics throughout the series.

This segment aired on August 28, 2023.
