Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren said she supports strikes by the U.S. on Houthi targets in parts of Yemen, and that the U.S. has a right to defend itself after Houthi rebels attacked U.S. ships, and those belonging our allies. But she's worried about the potential for a wider conflict in the Middle East.

"I am very concerned about expanding war in the region," Warren told WBUR's Radio Boston on Friday, "Congressional oversight is a critical part of any kind of military engagement like this."

Congressional leaders were briefed about the plans, but Congress did not give its direct approval. Warren said she expects more information from the White House on this and other plans in the future.

"We're going to get more briefings about what the facts are leading up to it, and have more conversations with the White House about the next steps here," Warren said. "It's very important that we stay together on this, that we consult on this and that Congress have the opportunity to raise concerns and be a sobering influence on the administration."

During the interview, Warren also spoke about the ongoing war in Israel and Gaza, efforts to avoid a government shutdown, the challenge to remove former President Trump from the Massachusetts primary ballot, and her work to get more federal money and grants for Massachusetts.
