The Boston Palestine Film Festival marks its 17th run this weekend. It was originally scheduled to begin in October. But after Hamas's attack in Israel on Oct. 7, followed by Israel's military offensive in Gaza, organizers cancelled the program in the fall.

This year's festival will take a more somber tone as the Palestinian community in Boston mourns the people killed in Gaza by Israeli airstrikes, according to Michael Maria, a Palestinian-American and the director of programming for the festival.

Radio Boston spoke with Maria and and arts reporter Erin Trahan about the festival.

This segment aired on January 19, 2024.
