A Boston program will pay to replace lead pipes. But residents aren't using it
ResumeThe Boston Water and Sewer Commission knows there are nearly three thousand lead pipes delivering water to city residents, but says there could be thousands more. Lead in drinking water is known to have multiple negative health impacts.
In efforts to eliminate lead pipes by the next decade, the water commission announced a program which allows residents to replace lead pipes at zero cost. But an investigation from Boston Globe contributing reporter and Boston University professor David Abel and his students found that residents aren't using the program.
Radio Boston sits down with Abel and Boston University student Taylor Brokesh to talk about their reporting.
