Due to volcanic activity in Iceland and the potential safety concerns with travel to the region, WBUR has made the decision to replace the prize, “Discover the Wilds of Iceland Onboard the Ocean Albatros” cruise, with the “The Cultural Highlights of Japan” group tour.

The WBUR Spring 2024 Sweepstakes Rules & Regulations apply to The Cultural Highlights of Japan prize described below. Entries made beginning at 12:01 AM ET on October 12, 2023 through the deadline stated below are eligible in the drawing.

Deadlines for entry for each sweepstake vary as specified below. A pledge in any amount within these deadlines results in an automatic entry. Subject to applicable sweepstakes rules, members of the Edward R. Murrow Society, WBUR’s major donor group, are automatically entered into all sweepstakes. If a potential winner cannot be reached after 10 days from first notification attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such prize will be forfeited. Prize is a sixteen (16)-day, fifteen (15)-night trip with fourteen (14)-nights of accommodations, for two (2) people, on the group tour, “The Cultural Highlights of Japan,” courtesy of Road Scholar. Valid only for travel in 2025. The trip includes round-trip airfare for up to two (2) people, flying from Boston, MA to Tokyo, Japan and returning from Kyoto, Japan to Boston, MA; thirty-five (35) meals; six (6) expert-led lectures; twenty (20) expert-led field trips; four (4) hands-on experiences; an experienced group leader; customary gratuities throughout the program; and the Road Scholar Assurance Plan. Travelers must be able to always handle their own luggage, walking and standing for up to three (3) miles, four (4) hours per day. Some longer walks are optional. Trip details are subject to change. Both travelers must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Winner and travel companion must travel on the same itinerary and at the same time as the winner. Winner and travel companion are responsible for obtaining valid passports and any other documents necessary for international travel. Trip must be booked at least ninety (90)-days in advance of travel. Air reservations must be made through Road Scholar. WBUR will provide the winner with a contact at Road Scholar to book tour reservations. Travel must be completed by December 31, 2025. Actual value of trip may vary depending on dates of travel, subject to space and availability. WBUR will also provide the winner one (1) Christopherson Business Travel (CBT) gift certificate in the amount of two-thousand and four hundred ($2,400 USD) dollars, which the winner may apply towards authorized expenses for this trip, or may apply towards a separate trip. The CBT gift certificate can be used toward reserving air flights, ground transfers, hotel accommodations, and/or travel packages, in accordance with CBT’s protocols and guidelines. To redeem the CBT gift certificate, the winner must make travel arrangements through CBT. WBUR will facilitate contact with a CBT representative to assist in booking the reservation. Travel reservations must be booked by December 31, 2025, and at least fifteen (15) days before the travel date. The costs of reservations may vary based on travel dates and availability. Any expenses not covered by and/or exceeding the travel gift certificate amount, such as departure fees, taxes, fees, visas, and surcharges, are the winner's responsibility. Additional costs for excursions, insurance, single room supplements, alternate departure airports, business class upgrades, and other expenses cannot be paid with the travel gift certificate and must be covered by the travelers. The travel gift certificate cannot be applied to excursions, meals, gratuities, personal expenses, or other costs associated with the trip. If the actual value of the travel turns out to be less than total prize valued below, the difference will not be awarded in cash. Should the winner cancel after making trip reservations, the prize is forfeited, and no substitution or credit will be provided. Winner may need to pay for any departure fees and federal, state, and/or local taxes, fees, and surcharges at time of reservation. Trip includes round trip economy airfare from Boston’s Logan Airport for two (2) people; two (2)-night accommodations at Reykjavik Natura Hotel; seven (7)-nights cabin accommodations aboard the Ocean Albatros in a “Ship Balcony” level cabin (the “Ship Balcony” is a cabin that includes a verandah or balcony that will allow travelers to step outside without going to a public deck); twenty-seven (27) meals; four (4) expert-led lectures; nine (9) expert-led field trips; an experienced group leader; customary gratuities throughout the program; and the Road Scholar Assurance Plan. Restaurant Details: Winner will have the option of requesting dining reservations for two (2) people at the following four (4) Ottolenghi restaurants: NOPI, ROVI, Ottolenghi Spitalfields, and Ottolenghi Islington. WBUR will provide the winner with contact information for a WBUR representative to facilitate dining reservations. Reservation requests must be made at least ninety (90) days in advance of the desired reservation date and time and must be requested through the WBUR Representative. The Ottolenghi restaurant gift voucher must be presented after each meal in order to redeem the value. Any expenses exceeding the voucher amounts are the winner's responsibility. Total prize is valued at seven-thousand US dollars ($7,000 USD). The winner will receive an IRS Form-1099 in the amount of seven-thousand ($7,000 USD) US Dollars. The winner is responsible for all costs that exceed the awarded prize amount. If the actual value of the prize turns out to be less than the stated value, the difference will not be awarded in cash. (b) Prize is a one (1) vintage Wait Wait… Don't Tell Me! letterman style jacket in size extra-large (XL). Three (3) separate winners will be drawn at random. Jackets were originally crafted exclusively for the Wait Wait… Don't Tell Me! staff. Made of black wool with leather sleeves, featuring the show logo on the back and the WBUR logo on the front. While the estimated retail value of each jacket is one-hundred US Dollars ($100 US Dollars), it's essential to note that these jackets hold sentimental value as a piece of memorabilia from the beloved show. All hotels are based on availability; in the case that there is no availability, a hotel of similar quality may be selected by Shorts Travel Management. Shorts Travel Management will also provide the winner with an airfare voucher of up to two thousand ($2,000) dollars to be used towards economy class roundtrip airfare for two (2) from Boston Logan airport to Dublin, Ireland. Winner and travel companion are solely responsible for obtaining valid passports and any other documents necessary for international travel. Winner is responsible for payment of all tax obligations. Optional excursions, insurance, passenger fees, additional costs to fly from airports other than Boston, business class upgrades and any other add-ons that are not included in the above itinerary must be paid for by the travelers. Shorts Travel Management reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal value in the event that circumstances beyond their control make this unavoidable. Should the winner cancel after making trip reservations, the prize is forfeited, and no substitution or credit will be provided. Actual value of trip may vary depending on dates of travel. If the actual value of the prize turns out to be less than the stated value, the difference will not be awarded in cash. Total approximate retail value of prize is thirteen thousand ($13,000) dollars. The winner will receive an IRS Form-1099 in the amount of thirteen thousand ($13,000) dollars. The winner is responsible for all costs that exceed the awarded prize amount of thirteen thousand ($13,000) dollars. The prize is not negotiable or transferable. WBUR Spring 2023 Sweepstakes Rules & Regulations

NO PLEDGE NECESSARY TO ENTER. Pledging does not increase the chances of winning. Void where prohibited. Open only to legal residents of the 50 states of the U.S. (including the District of Columbia), 18 or older. All sweepstakes begin at 12:01 AM ET on February 16, 2023. Deadlines for entry for each sweepstake vary as specified below. A pledge in any amount within these deadlines results in an automatic entry. Subject to applicable sweepstakes rules, members of the Edward R. Murrow Society, WBUR’s major donor group, are automatically entered into all sweepstakes. All WBUR Sustainers are automatically entered into all sweepstakes. All times referenced are Eastern Time. To enter the sweepstakes without a pledge, visit www.wbur.org/sweepstakesentry and submit your contact information or send a 3×5 card with full name, address, phone number, and email address to WBUR, c/o SWEEPSTAKES, 890 Commonwealth Ave, 3rd Floor Boston, MA 02215. One entry per person. All entries must be completed to be eligible. These sweepstakes are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. By entering sweepstakes, entrant consents to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Suffolk County, Massachusetts for resolution of all disputes. Winner(s) will be selected in a random drawing approximately one month after the end of the fundraiser. Once submitted, entries become the sole property of WBUR and will not be returned. Winners will be notified by phone, mail and/or email. If potential winner cannot be reached after 10 days from first notification attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such prize will be forfeited. WBUR is not responsible or liable for multiple entries completed or entered by other than human means or entries that are late (including delayed data transmissions), tampered with, illegible, mutilated, forged, destroyed, incomplete, garbled, lost, misdirected, mechanically duplicated, mass machine printed, postage-due, or otherwise not in compliance with WBUR Sweepstakes Rules and Regulations (and such entries will be disqualified). Prize is one (1) Shorts Travel Management voucher in the amount of ten-thousand dollars ($10,000 USD) which can be used toward reserving air travel, ground travel, hotel accommodations, and/or excursions, in accordance with Shorts Travel Management’s protocols and guidelines. Reservations must be booked before June 30, 2024 and at least ninety (90) days prior to travel. To redeem the voucher, travel arrangements and excursions must be reserved through Shorts Travel Management. After the winner has accepted the prize, WBUR will provide the winner with the voucher which will include the contact information of a Shorts Travel Management representative who will assist in making reservations. Price of travel reservations, hotel accommodations, and excursions may vary depending on location and dates of travel, subject to space and availability. Blackout dates may apply. If the amount redeemed turns out to be less than the amount awarded on the voucher, the difference will not be awarded in cash. The winner will receive an IRS Form-1099 in the amount of ten-thousand dollars ($10,000 USD). Any fees or expenses above the awarded gift voucher amount will be the responsibility of the winner. The following fees and taxes cannot be paid using the voucher and will need to be paid by the winner separately: departure fees, federal tax, state tax, local tax, meals, incidentals, gratuities, passenger tariffs or duties, airline fees, surcharges, airport fees, service charges or facility charges; personal charges such as alcoholic beverages, spa services, and internet usage, and security fees. Travel insurance must be paid by the winner separately and is also the sole responsibility of the winner to obtain. Any travel reservations and/or excursions that are not booked through Shorts Travel Management must be paid for by the travelers separately. Winner and travel companion(s) are responsible for obtaining valid passports and any other documents necessary for travel. If traveling with a minor, the winner is responsible for obtaining the appropriate parental permissions and releases. WBUR reserves the right to substitute the prize for one of equal or greater value if the designated prize should become unavailable for any reason. The total prize is valued at ten-thousand dollars ($10,000 USD). Deadline to enter is Friday March 31, 2023 at 7:00 PM EDT.
