O'Malley Sworn In To Boston City Council

A new member joined the Boston City Council Tuesday.

Newly elected Councilor Matt O'Malley was sworn in at City Hall. He says he's elated to join the council.

"Oh, it's still an amazing feeling and I'm just on cloud nine," O'Malley said. "And I'm just so excited to get to work and hopefully leave the neighborhoods a little better off than the way I found them."

O'Malley succeeds John Tobin, who left the council for a job at Northeastern University. O’Malley easily won a special election for the 6th City Council District on Nov. 16.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino administered the oath of office. It was the mayor's first day back at work since being hospitalized for an infection in his elbow.
