2 Found Guilty In Murder Of Boston 14-Year-Old

It was a murder, with a 14-year-old victim who was allegedly snatched from a scooter and fatally shot, that shocked the boy's Dorchester neighborhood and the city of Boston in 2010.

On Thursday, a Boston jury found Crisostomo Lopes, 22, and Joshuia Fernandes, 18, guilty of the May 31, 2010, killing of the middle school student, Nicholas Fomby-Davis.

They now face sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole. They will be sentenced Friday morning.

As the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said at the trial's outset:

Lopes allegedly snatched the boy from the scooter he’d been riding and held him out at arm’s length while Fernandes allegedly fired multiple shots at him from a .45 caliber handgun. Fomby-Davis was mortally wounded and died a short time later at Boston Medical Center.

Lopes and Fernandes were suspected gang members. Authorities said Fomby-Davis was not involved with gangs.

As we reported in 2010, Fomby-Davis' murder led police to blanket Dorchester with fliers showing young men who police said associated with Lopes and Fernandes.

The murder happened two weeks after another 14-year-old, Jaewon Martin, was fatally shot on a basketball court.

Update at 4:15 p.m.: In a statement following the convictions, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, in part, expressed sympathy to Fomby-Davis' family:

My thoughts and prayers are with the Fomby-Davis family today. I sincerely hope that today’s guilty verdicts help them cope with their tragic loss.
