Tiffany Campbell is WBUR's executive editor of digital audience and news. She works on all things related to digital storytelling: editorial products, emerging platforms, and audience development and engagement. She oversees the teams managing visuals, digital reporting and editing, audience growth, social media, newsletters, and WBUR’s ideas and opinions vertical, Cognoscenti.
She has experience in the digital news operations of broadcast, print and radio newsrooms, including positions at The Seattle Times and CNN. She's most proud of her experience building digital teams, leading in extraordinary breaking news situations, launching new sites and products, working in visuals and design, and experimenting in digital storytelling.
She led WBUR’s breaking digital news coverage of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and has shepherded WBUR’s work across multiple platforms. Her teams have consistently been recognized for excellence and innovation, including national awards from the Online News Association in elections (2016); podcasts (2019) and as finalists for general excellence in 2020 and 2021. On her watch WBUR has also received several national digital Murrow Awards, most recently in 2024.
Tiffany has led and contributed to numerous special projects over the years at WBUR, from podcasts to voting guides to the comprehensive, can’t-miss Field Guide to Boston. A favorite was launching a new app and new website redesign in 2016. She’s also served with her colleagues on developing guidelines and standards, both for WBUR’s journalism and Generative Artificial Intelligence.
Another favorite past assignment was the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C. where she covered the games, took endless pictures of Canadian boots and hunted down the coveted knit leaf snow mittens and that year’s Olympic mascot, Quatchi. She was live-tweeting and live-streaming when that was barely a thing. She also shares in a breaking news staff Pulitzer with The Seattle Times (2010).
Tiffany grew up in Tacoma, WA – in the shadow of Mt. Rainer – and remains passionate about coffee, rain and evergreens. She earned a degree in Journalism & English from Western Washington University and recently earned her Masters in Business Administration from Boston University. She lives with her family and adopted dog in Greater Boston and continues to appreciate the absolutely perfectly wicked and exceptional Boston accent.
