"What would you recommend that I read this summer?"

That’s a question I got last year from one of my gym buddies. She knew that I often read books as part of my job, and she thought she might have missed some good ones during the busy school year.

As I started coming up with a list for her, I realized that many of the authors we’d talked to on Here & Now would be a great starting point.

This year we’ve talked to even more authors who’ve produced a bunch of terrific books. It’s a wide range of reads: fiction, non-fiction and even a few short story collections.

So, if you get a chance, check a few of them out. And tell us your suggestions in the comments!

Fiction:

  1. Corey Doctorow “Little Brother” and “Homeland”
  2. Elizabeth Graver “The End of the Point”
  3. Barbara Kingsolver “Flight Behavior”
  4. Khalid Hosseini “And the Mountains Echo”
  5. Don Lee “The Collective”
  6. Dennis Lehane “Live By Night”
  7. Philipp Meyer “The Son”
  8. Kevin Powers “The Yellow Birds”
  9. Lionel Shriver “Big Brother”
  10. Alexander McCall Smith “the Uncommon Appeal of Clouds”
  11. J. Courtney Sullivan “The Engagements”
