Boston - September 28, 2005 -

Part two of a series on healthcare disparities among the races.

Recent studies in the New England Journal of Medicine have found overall inequality in patient care, based on race. The Journal also reported last month that efforts to correct the disparities in anything beyond preventive care are not yet panning out.

In Boston, there's a growing push to solve the problem by working on patient-provider relationships, with training to help patients become more assertive and make providers more sensitive.

In part two of our series this week on disparities in
healthcare, WBUR's Martha Bebinger begins her report at a meeting of African American elders at the Franklin Park Clubhouse.
