(Photo Credit: Lauren Taylor Maurand) BOSTON, Mass. - October 02, 2006 - Pilots have used flight simulators in training for years, but now simulation technology is making a significant contribution to medical training as well. Simulation technology allows surgeons to perform a series of drills to help improve their dexterity and surgical skill. At medical conferences, surgeons are invited to participate in simulation competition, in which the exercise is timed and errors are recorded. The benefits of simulation technology go far beyond the competitve spirit. A 1997 report found that medical mistakes kill tens of thousands of patients every year.
