Candidate Conversation: Kerry Healey
By Bob Oakes

Listen to story (Real Audio)

BOSTON, Mass. - October 19, 2006 - In the race for Governor, Republican Kerry Healey has turned up the heat on Democrat Deval Patrick with a new campaign ad that slams him for complimenting as well as defending a convicted rapist.

The spot is the latest in a series of ads from the Healey campaign that claim Patrick is soft on crime and sympathetic to criminals rather than victims.

This was among the subjects WBUR's Bob Oakes raised in an interview with Lieutenant Governor Healey in her statehouse office yesterday...just after she spoke at a press conference announcing a plan to eliminate tolls on the Mass. Turnpike, west of Route 128.

Healey says she's running for governor because she believes she can help the state achieve its potential.
