Democrat Tim Murray and Republican Reed Hillman took part, while the event host, CBS4, cited time constraints in excluding the other candidates, Independent John Sullivan and Martina Robinson of the Green-Rainbow party. The Republican was among the fastest mover in the Massachusetts State Police. Hillman was promoted in record time to become Superintendent of the force. Meanwhile, the Democrat was the youngest person, at 29, elected to Worcester's City Council. A few years later, Tim Murray became Mayor of the state's second largest city.
