Listen to story (Real Audio)

BOSTON, Mass. - November 03, 2006 - In 2005, Senator Ted Kennedy embarked on a campaign fundraising drive designed to intimidate any challenger and avoid a re-election battle. But the Democrat's
$10 million war-chest has not deterred Ken Chase.

The Belmont linguist and historian is the Republican nominee in Tuesday's election for the U.S. Senate seat Kennedy has held for 44 years.

We hear from both candidates in this report from WBUR'S Steve Brown.
