Patrick Breaks Barrier

BOSTON, Mass. - November 08, 2006 - After 16 years of Republican rule, a Democrat is headed to the governor's office. Deval Patrick is the first African American governor-elect in Massachusetts history and the second-ever in U.S. history. The Milton attorney defeated his Republican challenger Kerry Healey by 56 percent to 35 percent.
Independent candidate Christy Mihos garnered seven percent while Grace Ross of the Green Rainbow Party won two percent of the vote. WBUR's Fred Thys reports on Patrick's historic victory.
