Massachusetts Soldier Killed in Iraq
By Mark Navin

BOSTON - May 14, 2007 - Lieutenant Andrew Bacevich graduated from Boston University in 2003 with a major in Communications. He was the son of Boston University International Relations Professor Andrew Bacevich, who himself served in the Army.

The elder Bacevich was the author most recently of "The New Militarism: How Americans are Seduced by War." He has described himself as an old-fashioned conservative opposed to the American military intervention in Iraq.

In an e-mail to the family, the younger Bacevich's captain says he was killed south of Samarra, on a main highway.

His unit had orders to look out for white sedans, and one came down the road. The soldiers stopped the car, and Bacevich was killed instantly when one of the passengers detonated himself.
