Gov. Rolls Out Casino Bill

BOSTON, Mass. - October 12, 2007 - Opponents are vowing to fight Governor Deval Patrick's plan to legalize casino gambling in Massachusetts and supporters are lining up the votes to pass it.
Patrick yesterday unveiled his legislation, which would auction licenses to open three resort casinos in different parts of the state. The governor says it would create at least two billion dollars of economic activity.
House Speaker and casino skeptic Sal DiMasi has promised to give the bill a fair hearing. So lawmakers will debate its merits, but what about the merits of the auction itself? WBUR's Business and Technology Reporter Curt Nickisch examines whether the governor's plan would get the most bang from the bidding.
