BOSTON, Mass. - April 10, 2008 - When David "Doc" Westerling co-wrote Pioneer Institute's report on the Longfellow Bridge last year, he called it "Our Legacy of Neglect." He said the historic structure was emblematic of the state's infrastructure problems.

Westerling has more than 35 years of engineering experience in the public and private sectors, and is a past president of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers. He's an associate professor in the field at Merrimack College.

Today, WBUR's Bob Oakes turns to Westerling for a conversation about Governor Patrick's proposal to repair hundreds of the state's bridges.

Audio for this story will be available on WBUR's web site later today.
