Kerry Speaks at DNC
Listen to story (Real Audio)

BOSTON - August 28, 2008 - Four years after addressing the Democratic National Convention as the party's presidential nominee, Senator John Kerry addressed Democratic delegates last night, and said America is closer to electing a Democratic president now than in 2004.

WBUR's Adam Ragusea has more on Kerry's speech.

RAGUSEA: Four years ago, Senator Kerry evoked military imagery as he told Democrats he was "reporting for duty" to accept his party's nomination for the presidency. Last night, Kerry again focused on national security issues, telling the convention voters are ready for change.

KERRY: President Obama will shut down Guantanamo, respect the constitution, and make clear once and for all, the United States does not torture, not now, not ever.

RAGUSEA: Kerry's Republican opponent for reelection Jeff Beatty emphasized his own military experience in a written response, saying, "Barack Obama is not ready to lead and John Kerry never has."
