BOSTON - October 07, 2008 - If architects are composers, the cities they work in are their scores.
Baron Hausman created a symphony with his transformation of Paris into a city of broad boulevards in the 19th century. And Sextus the Fifth conducted a triumphal march with his commissions for a monumental Rome in the 16th century.
Boston isn't quite as old or grand as those two cities. But it has its own music, a string of intimate motifs, soft, melodic and elegantly written.
This morning, in part two of our series, Boston By Design, reporter Ken Shulman, along with some of the area's top architects, lend an ear to Boston's past and present, listening to the "Song of the City."
