Joanne Chang, chef and owner of Flour Bakery + Cafe and Myers + Chang in the South End won her first James Beard award Monday night after five nominations in as many years.

"I want to thank my parents," she said when handed the award for outstanding baker. "Every year that I've been nominated, they think I've won, so finally I can tell them that I actually won. I want to thank my staff, I have an incredible staff. I love them all and they make me want to go to work every day. And, most of all, I want to thank my husband. It's a pretty awesome thing to have your husband and business partner and best friend be all the same person. I'm really lucky."
