Hardwick Man Accused In Son's Beating Ordered Held On $200K Cash Bail

A Massachusetts man accused of beating and starving his 7-year-old son has been ordered held on $200,000 cash bail.

Randall Lints of Hardwick appeared Wednesday in East Brookfield District Court. He has pleaded not guilty to assault and child endangerment charges.

The Department of Children and Families took custody of the boy on July 14 and took him to a hospital after Lints called 911 to say his son was unresponsive. He weighed 38 pounds - well below average for a boy his age - and appeared dehydrated and starving. He also had bleach burns on his hands and knees.

The boy remains in a coma in a long-term rehabilitation center.

Lints' attorney, Michael Hussey, says "there may be plenty of blame to go around" for the boy's condition.
