From the CEO: Congress defunds public media
The following letter from WBUR CEO Margaret Low was shared with WBUR donors on Friday, July 18, 2025.
Dear Friend,
Just after midnight, Congress voted to cut all federal funds for public media. It's a gut punch — terrible for us and even worse for some of our station colleagues across the country. For WBUR, it means we'll lose at least $1.6 million this year. And every year for the foreseeable future.
Yet the news won't stop, and neither will we.
We're determined to carry on. Our commitment to thoughtful, fair and trustworthy coverage is undiminished. So vital in this era of disinformation and division.
For 75 years, we've told the truth and told it well. We've worked hard to earn your trust. One person. One story at a time. Our work is only possible with your support.
Given the clawback of federal funding, we'll need to rely even more on you and everyone in our community. This won't be a one-time fix. We're asking you to make a renewed commitment. Please give more if you can, and become a Sustainer.
Thank you for being in our corner when we need you most.
Warmly,
Margaret Low
