From the CEO: Together, we can change the game
The following letter from WBUR CEO Margaret Low was shared with WBUR donors on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Dear Friend,
Over the summer, Congress cut all federal funds for public media. For WBUR, that means we'll lose at least $1.6 million this year and every year for the foreseeable future. It's a terrible blow. One that could seriously diminish our service to this community.
But we won't let that happen. We're determined to be here for you always and we have a plan. We ran the numbers, and the solution is in sight:
Nearly 350,000 people tune into WBUR every week. If 10,000 new people become Members, we can meet this moment. (We know you're out there!)
Or, if all our current Members give 10% more, we'll be able to close the gap.
In short, it's not game over. It's game on. We're counting on you, Boston. Let's show the rest of the country how it's done and what we stand for — that we're united in our belief that independent journalism makes a difference for our community and for our country.
We know this city loves a challenge. We're smart. We're scrappy. Dogged, even. We've always punched above our weight and we rally together when the going gets tough. Now is just such a time.
If you can't imagine Boston without WBUR, please donate now.
Filling this $1.6 million gap is critical and achievable, but it'll take all of us. And it won't be a one-time fix. It will require your contribution this year and every year.
Our federal funding may be gone, but our dedication to high-quality journalism and enriching experiences endures. Together, we can change the game. One person. One story. One donation at a time. Let's do it, Boston. I know we can.
With gratitude,
Margaret Low
