WBUR Launches "Circle Round Summer Camp" with Erika Henningsen as Lead Camp Counselor

WBUR is thrilled to announce "Circle Round Summer Camp," a thematic audio experience launching on Tuesday, June 9, in the Circle Round podcast feed. Actress and singer Erika Henningsen — who stars as Dr. Elizabeth Green in WBUR's pick-your-own-path climate fiction podcast, The Midnight Rebellion — will join as the lead "camp counselor," introducing a curated selection of Circle Round favorites from the show's vast nine-year library.

Circle Round Summer Camp episodes are all nature-focused folktales, each introduced by Henningsen. The selection is designed for families spending time outside this summer, and offers stories that capture the wonder of the natural world.

"Erika will star as that classic camp counselor, the one who gathers everyone around the campfire to enjoy the stories that capture our imagination," said WBUR Director of Digital Audio Ben Brock Johnson. "All summer long, families will hear her warmth inviting them back to enjoy Circle Round's most beloved folktales — stories about nature, adventure and themes connecting the listener to the environment. And naturally, Circle Round fans searching for more may want to go from circling round the campfire with Erika to joining her for a new adventure in The Midnight Rebellion, where the stakes go higher and the action becomes more immersive."

"I had such a great time working with WBUR on The Midnight Rebellion, and I'm incredibly honored to be Circle Round's camp counselor this summer," said Henningsen. "Stories have this magical power to open our eyes to the world around us, and these nature-focused folktales remind us why we should care for our planet and all its creatures. Gathering families around these timeless tales feels like the most meaningful way to spend the summer."

Best known for originating the role of Cady Heron in the Broadway musical "Mean Girls," Henningsen also stars in Netflix's "The Four Seasons" and in Amazon's animated series, "Hazbin Hotel." She recently starred on Broadway as Sandra Dee in "Just in Time" with Jonathan Groff.

In The Midnight Rebellion, developed for kids ages 7 and up, Henningsen voices the mother of Joule Watts-Green, a 12-year-old who travels 100 years into the future to confront climate change head-on. The pick-your-own-path podcast features 82 different outcomes across 26 audio-rich episodes, all informed by climate science and packed with humor and heart. It's designed for kids and families to imagine themselves as part of climate solutions — and see what's possible when we work together.
