WBUR's commitment to community engagement

We're ready to listen, and aim to inform, inspire and amplify the communities we serve — and those we wish to serve.

At WBUR, we aim to foster meaningful connections, amplify diverse voices and serve as a trusted platform for community dialogue, enrichment and empowerment. Through inclusive programming, local partnerships and open communication, we aim to inform, inspire and amplify the communities we serve and wish to serve.

We’re here to connect with communities around Massachusetts and build new relationships with people from different racial, cultural and economic backgrounds.

  • We’ll meet you at events and invite you to listening sessions, where your feedback to WBUR is vital to understanding the issues in your community you’d like to hear and read about. Your voice will help us stay grounded about what matters most.
  • We’ll share real stories, celebrate local voices and create a space where everyone feels heard. We'll be transparent about how we do our work, including how we develop stories, where you can find our journalism and ways we’ll adapt to earn and retain your trust.
  • We’ll uphold our ethics and professionalism internally, forming a community engagement committee to ensure WBUR upholds these promises.

Our definition of "community engagement"

Community engagement drives WBUR’s journalism and fosters connection in our work, society and civic life.

We view community engagement as an open exchange, where people, organizations and WBUR learn from each other, leading to more informed decision-making and greater social cohesion. The goal is to ensure that community members trust WBUR and have their voices, lives and experiences reflected in our work. We strive to be physically present, making our engagement truly collaborative, participatory and relationship-building. These moments enhance mutual understanding and create positive cultural change.
