Dr. Maureen Sayres Van Niel is a psychiatrist and consultant in Cambridge and the author of "The Real Relationship between Therapist and Patient, Chapter 4." Founder and former director of the Harvard University Center for Parenting, Van Niel's writing has appeared in The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor and The New England Journal of Medicine, among others. She is a member of the Steering Committee of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Women’s Preventive Services Initiative, and she is president of the American Psychiatric Association’s Women’s Caucus.
