Unfinished Washington Portrait

This article is more than 13 years old.

The original portrait of George Washington as he appears on the dollar bill, is currently hanging in the Boston Athenaeum, a two-hundred year old library across from the Massachusetts State House.

The Athenaeum bought the painting, and a corresponding one of Martha Washington, in 1831, but then sold them in 1980. So this exhibit is something of a homecoming for the paintings.
