All Big Dig Tunnel Bolts May be Flawed

In the troubled Big Fig tunnels a fix is underway.

Engineers are beginning to re-enforce all of the ceiling fastenings in the Interstate-90 connector tunnel that use an apparently faulty bolt-and-epoxy system in which the bolts that held up ceiling panels are glued to the ceiling.

The work comes as investigators say there were discussions among big dig engineers and designers in 1999 about possible problems with the system.

Governor Mitt Romney says there is now doubt about all the epoxy bolt assemblies in the tunnel where a Jamaica Plain woman died last Monday when a ceiling panel fell on her car.
