Casino Hearing Set for Today

Governor Deval Patrick and Mayor Thomas Menino will headline a hearing on casino gambling at the statehouse this morning.

Governor Patrick will forecast the financial impact of his plan to build three casinos around the state. This will be the first time he will publicly campaign to expand gambling since he unveiled his proposal in October.

Casino moguls, including Sheldon Adelson, reportedly the third richest man in America, will also testify.

Testimony is before the joint committee on bonding, capital expenditures, and state assets. Committee chair Representative David Flynn is a casino supporter and pushed for the hearing. That's drawn criticism from casino opponents who say his committee has nothing to do with gambling.

This program aired on December 18, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
