Via e-mail, YouTube, and his Facebook page, Flaherty announced he'll run for the job this fall, promising to bring more openness to city government.

Thomas Menino, the four-term incumbent, has not formally said if he'll run for re-election.

One other candidate has declared: City Hall critic and failed City Council candidate Kevin McCrea.
